30 September 2023, Thanksgiving Dinner for the 100th Anniversary of the UP VANGUARD INC, another nostalgic night to remember. Gracing the occasion were members of the 100 yrs Homecoming Committee, the special honorees for the night, members of the Board of Governors, representatives from the different Chapters, as well as family and friends of the honorees. MGen Jose P. Magno ‘52 stood as the most senior Vanguard in attendance.
A remastered version of the Centennial video and musical score was presented by Maestro Vgd Leo Quintio ‘87 to everyone’s awe and applause, while Vgd Ernie Reyes ‘80 lead the program with his signature fraternal jest and pageantry.
Capping the celebration over food and drinks, the Board of Governors gave a special tribute to the Chairman Emeritus Vgd Gilbert T. Reyes ‘79 who served unwaveringly through four challenging decades. Members young and old sent their accolades and messages of appreciation via video, while a fortunate some were able to do so in person, making it extra special for our main honoree.
In response, Vgd GTR expressed his deep appreciation to the UP Vanguard membership stressing that “today’s Vanguard is a different Vanguard from 40 years ago, but through its evolution the ROTC DNA still remains.” Forever proud being a Vanguard, he urged all to remain true to our shibboleths of Duty well performed, Honor untarnished, and Country above self.
