MGEN MAGNO Graces UP Diliman DMST Military Science 1 Opening Ceremony as Guest of Honor and Speaker
16 September 2023 – MGEN JOSE P MAGNO JR (Ret), UP Vanguard Class of 1952, was Guest of Honor and Speaker during the first training day (TD) of the University of the Philippines Diliman Reserve Officers Training Corps (UP Diliman ROTC) in the Department of Military Science and Tactics (DMST)Complex. Gen. Magno, a distinguished member of the UP Vanguard, shares wisdom and inspiration to the almost 300 cadets of the Corps. This marks the start of the return of UP ROTC to full face-to-face training post pandemic online and hybrid training. For the first semester of academic year 2023-2024, there are 328 cadets from UP Diliman, 29 from UP Manila and 19 from UP Baguio enrolled in UP ROTC in Diliman.
He talked about his experiences as a cadet officer and how it helped him and his class, the “class of the generals”, become successful leaders in the military and beyond. He also challenged the cadets to be “snappy” not just in appearance but also in life. Some members of the UP Vanguard Capitol Chapter were in attendance during the TD in support of the General and the Corps’ first training of the year. Gen. Magno is also a member of the Capitol Chapter.
After the TD, General Magno also shared more of his experiences as a cadet officer during the lunch fellowship for the Cadet Officers, Sponsors and Vanguards present. This was held at JoeMag’s, also known as Magno Hall, which is commemoratively named after the General.
