General Romeo C. Espino
General Romeo C. Espino (1914-2003) graduated from the University of the Philippines in 1937, but entered the military service in 1941.
He survived the battle in Bataan and escaped the Death March during World War II, only to go back home and be among the brave soldiers who liberated Los Baños before the Americans. After years of meritorious service in the Armed Forces of the Philippines, he eventually became the 3rd UP Vanguard to reach the highest military position in the land, serving as AFP Chief of Staff for nearly a decade – from 1972 to 1981.
Aside from being a military officer, agriculturist, academician, lawyer, and corporate management practitioner, he has been involved with many other notable institutions, the longest of which was the Philippine National Red Cross where he served as chairman from 1975 to 1998.
