UPVI Pasig Chapter Plants Cherry Blossoms to Symbolize Renewed Commitment and Brotherhood

The UPVI Pasig Chapter planted 10 cherry blossom trees at the Department of Military Science and Tactics (DMST) last August 9, 2025. The initiative, led by Pasig Chapter Commander Jass Mercado, aims to serve as a powerful symbol of unity and a call for renewed commitment to the organization.

The planting of the trees, also known as Japanese Cherry or Sakura, goes beyond a simple beautification project. "This is not just a gesture of beauty, but a living symbol of our renewed commitment to nurture and re-energize the UP Vanguard and its Chapters," Mercado stated. "This act represents our collective effort to uphold our time-honored tenets and traditions. We also hope it serves as a gentle call to those who may have outgrown and drifted away from fraternity life, inspiring them to reignite the dwindling flame and once again become part of the strength that sustains our brotherhood."

The trees are expected to bloom in three to four years. Mercado shared his vision for the future, noting that "if the University has a lantern parade, we will have our yearly Cherry Blossom festivals. With food stalls, drinks, souvenirs, song and dance programs or competitions." This future festival would not only celebrate the beauty of the blossoms but also provide a new tradition for the UP Vanguard community to share and enjoy.
