Ceremonials Turn-Over of the UP Vanguard donations for our troops in Kalayaan Island Group (KIG)

Soldiers tasked to man and protect the 10 islands and features in the Kalayaan Island Group got an early Christmas present when the UP Vanguard Inc., the country’s oldest Reserve Officers Training Corps, formally donated assorted equipment and sports items to the military Monday morning.

The donation was formally handed over to Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) vice chief-of-staff Lt. Gen. Glorioso Miranda by UP Vanguard Vice National Commander, reservist Brig. Gen. Marcelo Bonifacio Javier.

Handover took place at the AFP Canopy Area in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

The donated items consists of one chest freezer, one solar panel, one generator set, two basketballs, a pair badminton racquets, two fishing rods, 10 helmets, 10 rubber gloves, 10 mask, 10 googles, 10 LED bulbs and four Motorola 2-way radios.

Javier said they were able to come up with this donation thanks to their successful fun-run last April 9.

Miranda lauded the efforts by the UP Vanguard community and said that it serves as a good reminder that a lot of Filipinos are well aware of the sacrifices being carried out by military personnel guarding Philippines possessions at the Kalayaan Island Group.

Out of the seven island and three reefs being controlled by the Philippines, Pagasa is the largest measuring 37.2 hectares.

Other Philippine possessions in the Spratlys include Likas Island which measures 18.6 hectares, Parolo Island, 12.7 hectares, Lawak Island 7.93 hectares, Kota Island, 6. 45 hectares, Patag Island, 0.57, Panata Island, 0.44, Rizal, Balagtas and Ayungin Reefs.

The items are scheduled to be delivered by air on December 8, he added
