Bonifacio Day Wreath-Laying Ceremony

The UP Community led by the U.P. Vanguard, Inc. commemorated Andres Bonifacio Day last Wednesday, 30 November 2011. More than 100 admirers gathered around the “Ala-ala ng Bayang Filipino sa mga Bayani ng ‘96” Shrine in front of Vinzon’s Hall to offer accolades, ceremonial salutes, ruffles, flourishes and taps to the Great Plebian. Arrival and Foyer Honors were rendered elegantly by the UP Rayadillo Honor Guard Company.

Five floral wreaths were tendered by institutional representatives and personalities such as the Guest of Honor, internationally-renowned composer and Bonifacio devotee, Professor Jerry Dadap; Chairman Gilbert Reyes and Gen. Eliseo Rio of the U.P. Vanguard, Inc.; Col. Gerard Velez of the Office of the AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations J7; LtCol. Roland Rodil, Commandant & Department Head of the UP Department of Military Science & Tactics; Cadet Colonel Ryan Christopher Arana, Corps Commander of the U.P. Corps of Cadets; Corps Sponsor Maria Cristina Orante of the  U.P. Corps of Sponsors; Mrs. Rosanna Vallejo-Lapay of the Vallejo clan; Filomeno Buena, President of the Rainbow Rangers Alumni Association; and Kapatiran ng mga Anak ng Bayan representative Joey Sumiller.

Rousing patriotic music was provided by the Andres Bonifacio Concert Choir and the UP ROTC Band under the baton of Professor Rodney Ambat. This remarkable event is part of the yearlong celebration of the Centennial Year of the UP ROTC with the theme “A Salute to 100 Years of Duty Well-Performed; Honor Untarnished; and Country Above Self”.
