Duty well-performed, Honor untarnished, Country above self, words of immense value that have enriched the Vanguard spirit across generations. It is the culture that has shaped and molded the attributes of a gentleman of the finest order, and the hallmark of accomplishment, satisfaction, and achievement. The Christmas Season is the most propitious time to reflect on this value. The best of everything emerges during this period. It is garnished with many celebrations, festivities, and merriment. The luster are just the peripheral symbols because beyond this glitter lies hope, happiness, and prosperity; the true meaning of the birth of Jesus Christ. Similarly, our organization rests upon a foundation of leadership, excellence, and service, hallowed words that shall forever be the bedrock of hope and vision of this venerable institution.

The Year 2012 is a milestone in the Vanguard calendar. It is our centennial year, 100 years of quality military and ROTC training that started in U.P. in 1912. Within that span, the ROTC program has brought forth dedicated Vanguards and leaders in all aspects of national life, military, business and industry, government, academe, and many other fields of endeavor. We are the heir to a purposeful legacy that proudly beacons as a light of the past and future generations to come. As we end the year 2011 and enter the year 2012, let us renew our pledge and commitment to our noble ideals and remain to be true and worthy Vanguards. LONG LIVE VANGUARD!!!

Lastly, I wish to take this opportunity to personally invite you to attend our Reunion and Homecoming on 17 March 2012. Let us all stand tall and be counted as we make our Centennial Roll Call.
